Lori by OG!

Hello again! I was just at Target was rounding the corner after the crushing disappointment of finding NO Freak du Chic Twyla again, when I noticed something new in the end cap...
Who?

Now last week, I noticed a smallish dollhouse that looked like it was supposed to be for Our Generation dolls in that endcap (OG, for the unaware, are 18" play dolls made for Target by Battat. They're a little like American Girl, with fashion packs and playsets like kitchens and campers, only they are very very budget friendly, since- Target), but when I placed a Monster High doll in there to check the scale, it occurred to me that there was no way an 18" girl would fit in there and I left, perplexed, to figure out dinner instead.

But today I found what looked like the OG mini dolls (which went on clearance and then disappeared in the last couple of weeks) rebranded as "Lori by OG"). And they had new friends, pets and fashion packs! The dolls are a little more expensive- I believe the OG minis were $9.99, and these guys are $11.99 (at our Target here in northern San Diego). They come with little purses and accessories like, whereas the older ones had a shirt, pants and shoes (sometimes a sweater). There are also two girls that come with a pet puppy and leash. And at least 4 fashion packs.

In addition, there was the doll house (it looks like a modern loft), a ballet studio (which there was a tag for but none present) and a desk set (pictured).

Although I told myself no new dolls until layaway season starts... I picked up a doll and fashion pack and ran!

Before I show you those, I must say I am pleased with the selection of newer dolls. OG already has a shortage of ethnic dolls, and there were NONE in the selection of mini dolls... but Lori has a more diverse group right off the bat. They could do a little better but hey- its progress.

Zarya, Cyarra, and Tama, the three newer girls

The fashion packs

The desk set
The adorable camper

The condo loft (fancee u_u)

I brought home Zarya (whom I mistook for a mini Our Generation Kaylee- with her darker complexion and beautiful curly pigtails). And a Glam Gal fashion pack.

A little comparison with the original OG minis and an Our Generation Alejandra...

With 10.5" Ghoulia for comparison.
OG minis are about 7" tall and Lori dolls are the same. Looking back at other minis- some came with a headband or tights so its not as if the newer dolls have that much more to offer that they should be $2 more.. except maybe the larger packaging? (Don't worry though- Battat assures us that its recycled and recyclable :)

The packaging is pink and white and sturdy, very different from the garish HOT PINK ORANGE YELLOW of the OG girls. While the color is very soft and pretty the variety of tones in the dolls clothes is refreshing, just in my opinion. The back of the packaging has a picture of the doll (way more flattering than the OG mini pics) and text that shows everything included, tells you a little about the girls (its the same on each box) invites you to come and hang with them... Are they supposed to live in New York? Chicago? Los Angeles? San Francisco? It would have been cute to have them represent different cities, or at least have different interests (nothing wrong with ballet and reading of course). I guess this leaves things open to interpretation (and a kids imagination)!

I guess a smile is a good accessory but they mostly have a shy grin

While Mini OG Lana (the redhead) was held in with a couple of rubber bands, Zarya had a rubber band around her neck, and little threads holding all her accessories on. But not hard to remove (and honestly probably easier with tiny sewing scissors and not the huge ones I was using u_u)

Her hat is fastened to her head with 3 plastic ties- one on top and one above each ponytail (used forceps to pull them out instead of scissors, it was not easy to free her without pulling hair) and her purse is tied to her wrist.

And here is Zarya, free:

Zarya has a more dusky brown skin tone than most of the dolls, hazel inset eyes, and curly reddish brown hair. (It looks more red in the sun- so red highlights?) It's very soft, and though I was afraid to brush them out too much, a couple of passes and her hair was fuller but still lovely.

She stands on her own with some finangaling, her left leg is pretty loose. The legs are strung and I found (after playing with em for a bit) that the mini OG Lana has the same issue!

Zarya, left, and Lana, right.

As you can see they have cloth stuffed bodies and vinyl arms, legs and head. There is a plastic socket (?) inside the body so the arms and legs can turn. The dolls have 5 points of articulation. The neck was a little stiff, but can turn side to side. (She has a little trouble standing on her bare feet- she has to lean forward. The loose joint makes her leg seem longer than it is).

(Don't mind her hair... I pulled it tighter in the ponytails and now its trying to defy gravity. :P)

She can sit well enough, though she topples over unless her hands are propping her up.

Now. Her clothes. The clothes are .. well how do I describe? Zaryas remind me of maybe the costume of a kid in a stage show about New York at the turn of the century (1900 not 2000), who lives by her wits alone and perhaps under the care of a mean school marm at a boarding school or orphanage in a movie where they break into song every 15 minutes. I don't know what it is- the mis matched clothes? The little hat? Its a little 'Oliver' and a little 'Lil Orphan Annie'. To me. (I'm weird)

Actually most of the clothes in the line remind me of upper class children in New York form another era- maybe not 2015. I'm trying to imagine it as an actual outfit. Its all over the place! Is the faux suede mustard colored top a vest? Is it ... tucked into her skirt? The skirt, denim with ruffles on the bottom is very 80s, the boots - with fur at the ankles bound with a ribbon, very ... 2000?? When was everyone wearing those furry boots?? I've lived in a little town too long, not sure what the girls in the big cities are wearing u_u

Anyway, the skirt and top are all one piece. The tights are well made and look very sturdy, same with the "wool" hat. The purse reminds me of macrame, is a soft thread with little shiny threads through and that tablecloth material for handles. It opens, but there is nothing to seal it closed. The top and skirt aren't finished at the ends, so I worry about things unraveling after a while, although it wasn't terribly hard dressing them. A kid might have a few issues with the sleeves but the thumbs don't pose too big a problem, honestly.

And now for the fashion pack!

Front, back, and everything included

The little glasses sold me
Removing the items was as easy as removing the doll- a few threads (two on the glasses- be careful!) and a couple of tabs, and viola!

There's a plastic tab on the jacket in back...

And the thread on the glasses that I warned you about ...

 Here's everything:

The seams are unfinished and I don't have a lot of hope for this jacket. Not only that but I had a hard time pulling it closed around her neck. It almost didn't fit? The skirt is a light knit and the only real issue is that the Velcro is "weak". It barely holds- a rubber band might be necessary to keep the skirt up.

The purse is bright pink, made of a table cloth-like material (with an odd matte finish and sort of velvety texture)... it has a velcro closure and not a lot of ornamentation on the front (no button or anything). It does have a shiny blue-ish chain though, AND it opens! I put a book in there for Zarya.

The socks bunch up a little on the feet but slide on easily enough, and don't really prevent the shoes from going on. The shoes are rubbery little high top sneaker type things in a bright pink and white. The bunching DID make her a little less steady on her feet, what with the one leg being almost longer than the other.

Here it is, on Zarya:

The glasses are kind of bulky but if they were any thinner they'd break in seconds, methinks. The shirt looks tight around her middle, and I had to really scootch the sleeves up to make it fit. From the pic on the package, it looks like we're supposed to tuck the shirt in, but given the Velcro issues I can't see the skirt staying on if I do that! (plus I don't like tucking things in... just a personal thing).
BUT - I think it looks great all together! Plus I think the fashion packs may provide some mixing and matching... like, here is Zarya in Lanas blouse and the Glam skirt:

LOOK I TOLD YOU I'M NO GOOD AT FASHION

Maybe I'll stick to the put together outfits....

Here are Zarya and Lana, having traded clothes, ready for a day in the Big City. Maybe its the first day of school?

yeah, we'll go with that.

Welp. There you have a little peek at Lori by OH (for the record, "Lori" is the brunette in the purple sweater and tweed dress). And by the time I finished this- I found their website! There's not much on it, but its there u_u

Oh and one more thing...

THEY HAVE A CAR!?!??!

HOW OLD ARE THESE "GIRLS"?!?

^_^ Thanks for reading!
